Slim Chickens Brings 100 Jobs to Collierville
Founded by a Team
In the South, football has an infamous reputation for uniting local communities by giving different people a common cause. Josh Rowden, DHR partner and franchisee, grew up in a SEC state, surrounded by people who believed in the importance of having a team both on and off the field.
One of those people was his father, who co-owns and operates 31 Sonic Drive-In’s across Arkansas and beyond.
“People who are born and raised in the restaurant industry either hate it or love it. And, you know, I fell in love with it, seeing my dad do it for so long and watching him influence people in unique ways,” Rowden says.
With a passion for football and youth development, Rowden graduated from college at the University of Arkansas fully prepared to accept a coaching position at a school not far from his hometown. His plans changed after dining in at Slim Chickens, a Fayetteville-based franchise known for its fresh hand-breaded chicken tenders.
“At different times in our lives, my partners and I all commented, ‘This chicken is so good. We should think about owning one of these one day,’” Rowden says.
They took it as a sign. Years later, Rowden and his partners, Cody and Scott Davis, are opening Slim Chickens in cities like Collierville, Bartlett, Jackson, Knoxville and Chattanooga. They operate under the DHR group, which was founded by their fathers.
The Fast Casual Trend
Instinctively, DHR realized there was a new restaurant model on the rise.
“We discovered there was a need for a place like Slim Chickens that offered fresh food in a fast, casual environment,” Rowden says.
Slim Chickens’ family-style seating, bright lighting and open patio all contribute to this aesthetic. Southern staples, like fried pickles and chicken and waffles, add another personal touch.
“I quickly realized that I could coach in a business model as well and impact people who I otherwise would not have the opportunity to impact,” Rowden says.
