From Harvard to Home: Anna Traverse Fogle Shares Her Professional Journey

Born and raised in Memphis, Anna Traverse Fogle has close ties to the people and stories behind her hometown. She attended St. Mary’s Episcopal School before going on to earn college and graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins and Harvard.

Over the last three years, Fogle has led the way at Contemporary Media, Inc., the most well-known print publisher in Memphis. In 2019, her strategic initiative paid off when she was named CEO of the company.

On Thursday, Apr. 22, Fogle took a step back from her role to reflect on her career and accomplishments at the Collierville Chamber’s Women’s Leadership Network hosted at Ridgeway Country Club. Other members of the Contemporary Media also made an appearance, supporting Fogle and serving as ambassadors for Collierville Magazine.

“Our team is truly one big happy family,” says Margie Neal, Production Operations Director at Contemporary Media.

Memphis magazine, Memphis Flyer, Memphis Parent and Inside Memphis Business are some of the publications that regularly flow out their talented team. Contemporary Media also helps to produce Collierville Magazine, an annual publication sponsored by the Collierville Chamber.

After an introduction from Mark Heuberger, Chamber president, Fogle took the audience through her journey. From Harvard to Mueller Industries, Fogle recounted her career before Contemporary Media, jokingly referring to the “weird resume” that got her where she is today. Through her story, she encouraged the audience to be confident in the unique skills and abilities they bring to the table.

“I’ve been reading the Memphis Flyer longer than I’ve been helping to produce it. And now I am lucky enough to be a part of the platform that provides free local news, which I think is critical for any community,” Fogle says.

Fogle also discussed how Contemporary Media pivoted its operations during COVID-19. Since the world was already in transition, they thought it was a good time to take risks. Bold magazine covers and timely subject matters were proof of their innovation.

The Women’s Leadership Network is a monthly event sponsored by First Horizon that brings together women business leaders and entrepreneurs from across the Greater Memphis Area. Visit our website here to learn about Women’s Leadership Network and upcoming events.
